Retaining & Block Walls

Concrete is one of the most versatile and durable materials available for outdoor surfaces in Phoenix.

When it's designed and poured correctly, it handles the heat, the ground movement, and the heavy use without issue. Citiscapes installs decorative and structural concrete for driveways, patios, walkways, and more.

How concrete is installed outdoors: Sub-grade preparation is the most important step — the base needs to be compacted and graded before any concrete is poured. Forms are set, reinforcement (rebar or wire mesh) is placed, and concrete is poured, screeded, and finished to the specified texture. Control joints are cut at planned intervals to direct cracking away from the surface. Curing compound or wet curing slows moisture loss, and the concrete is sealed after adequate cure time to protect the surface.

Citiscapes designs and builds retaining walls and block walls for residential properties throughout Phoenix, Scottsdale, and Paradise Valley. Whether the goal is managing a sloped backyard, creating tiered planting areas, or installing a privacy wall along a property line, we engineer the right solution for the grade change and soil conditions on each site.

Retaining walls in Arizona fail for one of two reasons: an inadequate footing or missing drainage behind the wall. Hydrostatic pressure from monsoon rain accumulation will push an unreinforced wall forward within a few seasons. We build with proper footing, gravel backfill, and drainage so the wall does its job for decades.

We specialize in Retaining Walls and Block Walls.

Block walls are one of the most visible features in any Phoenix property — and the finish matters as much as the structure underneath. Whether you want a plain painted CMU privacy wall or a finished wall with a stone veneer cap and lighting, we plan the look from the start so it integrates with the rest of the outdoor design.

We also build tiered planters, raised garden beds, decorative landscape walls, and grade separation walls as part of larger backyard projects. If a yard has a slope, there's almost always a smarter way to deal with it than ignoring it.
